Alloy 20 generally has an approximate composition of 32–38% nickel, 19–21% chromium, 2–3% molybdenum, 3–4% copper, and minor additions of niobium to improve stabilization against intergranular corrosion. It provides a tensile strength of about 620 MPa, yield strength of 275 MPa, and elongation of about 30–40%. The alloy is shown to have good resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, particularly in sulfuric acid-rich medium. Its austenitic microstructure grants it good weldability, formability, and mechanical strength over a wide temperature range.
