The chemical content of WP5 contains around 5% chromium and 0.5% molybdenum with the rest mostly iron and limited amounts of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon. This alloy provides a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa and tensile strength between 415 and 585 MPa with an elongation of over 20%. The chromium gives improved resistance to oxidation and scaling, and the molybdenum enhances resistance to corrosion in acidic conditions as well as high-temperature strength. WP5 is also good in weldability as well as structural stability under thermal cycling conditions.
