UNSM S31803’s chemical composition generally consists of 21–23% chromium, 4.5–6.5% nickel, 2.5–3.5% molybdenum, and a trace of nitrogen to favor mechanical and corrosion properties. Duplex S31803 has a tensile strength of about 620–800 MPa, minimum yield strength of 450 MPa, and elongation of about 25%. Its duplex microstructure allows it to have superior resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, pitting, crevice corrosion, and erosion-corrosion, especially in environments where there is regular exposure to seawater or aggressive chemicals. Good weldability and dimensional stability are also retained in the alloy.
