Forged Fittings of Stainless Steel 317 / 317L consist of chromium (18–20%), nickel (11–15%), and molybdenum (3–4%), with the maximum amount of 0.03% carbon in 317L. These alloys provide superior resistance to sulfuric, acetic, and other aggressive acids. SS 317 possesses a tensile strength of around 515 MPa, yield strength of 205 MPa, and elongation of around 35%. The decreased carbon content in 317L acts to improve resistance to sensitization when welding. Both grades offer better corrosion resistance and mechanical strength in abusive environments, making them good choices for demanding, high-performance piping applications.
