Stainless steel 348 is a stabilized austenitic stainless steel alloy with 17–20% chromium, 8–12% nickel, and minor columbium (niobium) and tantalum additions. It possesses good intergranular corrosion resistance even after welding. The alloy is resistant to good mechanical strength even at elevated temperatures, and its tensile strength is about 515 MPa, yield strength is 205 MPa, and elongation is about 40%. The Brinell hardness of SS 348 pipe fittings is also 160–220 HB. All these properties make SS 348 pipe fittings very reliable to use in thermal cycling and corrosive environment applications.
